Battle of Quebec
The colonials wanted Canada to join the revolt. They thought that if they captured Quebec City, Quebec Province. The French Canadians would rally to their cause. General Benedict Arnold led one wing of the attack though the harsh wilderness in Northern Maine. Another column under General Richard Montgomery captured Montreal and headed on the Quebec City. The problem was that a third of Arnold's column returned home. They attacked Quebec City in a two-pronged attack. During the attack Montgomery was struck by a cannonball and fell fatally wounded. This ended his assault and the British were able to re-deploy their somewhat meager forces to beat of Arnold's attack. Arnold was wounded in the attack and was carried off the field. He survived , but hundreds of others did not and the colonials were forced to retreat. They were lucky the British did not pursue.
